22nd March 2026: Rachnatmak Congress convened a Jan Sunwai at the Press Club of India, New Delhi, bringing together more than 100 members of the LGBTQI+ community, transgender activists, constitutional experts, civil society representatives, and Opposition leaders to deliberate on the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026. The public hearing provided a democratic platform for participants to express concerns regarding the proposed amendments and their potential implications for the constitutional rights, dignity, and legal recognition of transgender persons.
Addressing the gathering, Sandeep Dikshit, Chairperson of Rachnatmak Congress, called for the Bill to be referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee to enable comprehensive stakeholder consultation. Throughout the discussions, participants highlighted concerns over provisions relating to self-identification, mandatory medical certification, expanded administrative discretion, and the need to safeguard the principles established through the Supreme Court’s landmark judgments on gender identity and individual dignity.
The Jan Sunwai concluded with a collective commitment to continue constructive engagement on transgender rights through public dialogue, policy advocacy, and community participation. Rachnatmak Congress reaffirmed its commitment to promoting constitutional values, equality, dignity, and inclusive policymaking, while encouraging continued consultation with affected communities in matters concerning their rights and welfare.
